Indian Air Force Group X & Y Exam : Selection Procedure, Various Amenities, Eligibility Criteria & Important Guidelines

Indian Air Force (IAF) Group X & Y are the personnel level positions below officer rank in the Indian Air Force, also known as Airmen.The Indian Air Force recruits the candidates in various groups and departments through group X & Y exams as airmen. Airmen are technical and non-technical personnel of the Indian air force and they are responsible for ground operations like mechanical, electrical, electronic, IT, accounting, medical, security, Air Force traffic control, logistics, requirement works, air force music band, training and education for the air force officers and associated duties.


In a technical department of group X, the posts are: air frame fitter, propulsion fitter, weapon fitter, electrical fitter, electronic fitter, mechanical fitter, automobile fitter, and workshop fitter.

& In the non-technical department of group Y, the posts are: account assistant, administrative assistant, logistics assistant, operation assistant, medical assistant, IAF Police & Security, ground training instructor, environmental support services assistant, musician, and cryptographer.

IAF Group X & Y Exam Selection Procedure:

Every year, the Indian Air Force recruits airmen for Group X & Y. Group X is for candidates having a technical qualification, those who have completed their +2 in science and maths or diploma holders, while Group Y is for candidates having non-technical qualifications. The selection of the candidates for this position is based on the qualifying IAF Group X & Y exams. The following stages govern the selection of candidates for airmen in the air force:

1) Written Test: For Group X:- Physics, English, Maths

                          For Group Y:- Reasoning and General Awareness(RAGA), English

                         & For Group X & Y :- Physics, English, Maths & Reasoning and General Awareness(RAGA).

2) Physical Fitness Test: Candidates who pass the physical fitness test will be eligible to take Adaptability Tests 1 and Adaptability Tests 2.

3) Medical Exam

Eligibility for the IAF Group X and Y Exams:

The eligibility criteria for the Air Force are decided by the Central Airmen Selection Board and the eligibility criteria are:

1) Nationality- The only Indian candidates can apply for this exam.

2) Educational Qualifications-

For Group X:a 10+2 pass with Physics, Mathematics, and English with a minimum of 50% in aggregate and 50% in English is required, or a 3 year diploma course in engineering in any stream is required.

For Group Y:10+2 or its equivalent

3) Age Limit- The candidates' maximum age is 21 years.

4) Gender & Marital Status-Unmarried male candidates only

5) Physical Fitness Test- The candidate's eligibility for the physical fitness test is determined by height, weight, and medical standards.
