Why should you join the Indian Armed Forces:- Life In The Indian Armed Forces: Agnipath Scheme

How is life in the Indian armed forces? We're sure that a number of people would like to ask this question and are very curious to know about the lifestyle of a soldier. People are always interested in knowing the lifestyle and routine of a soldier, and why not? After all, it is the army we are talking about.

Though each and every soldier will have his own opinion when it comes to life experience in the army, one thing is sure: life in the Indian army is full of action and adventure too. Words are just not enough to explain the whole experience of a defence person, but we will try to get you as close as we can to an Indian army soldier’s life. But before knowing the lifestyle of soldiers, we should know about the armed forces.

The Indian armed forces are the military forces consisting of three professional uniformed services:  the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy. And these forces are under the management of the Ministry of  Defence of the Govt. of India.

The Indian Army:- The Indian Army  is the land based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Force. The primary mission of the Indian Army is to ensure the national security and unity of the nation, to defend the nation from external aggression and internal threats, and to maintain peace and security within its borders. It also conducts humanitarian rescue operations during natural calamities and other disturbances.

The Indian Navy:-  The Indian Navy is the Naval Branch of Indian Armed Forces and the President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy. The primary mission of the Indian Navy is to safeguard the nation’s maritime borders. The Indian Navy also promotes bilateral relations between nations.

The Indian Air Force:- The Indian Air Force is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces and its primary objective is to secure Indian airspace  and  conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.

Amid massive protests across India, the Indian Armed Forces (Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy) announced a broad schedule for recruitment of soldiers under the Agnipath Scheme.

What is the Agnipath Scheme?

Agnipath is a new scheme introduced by the Govt. of India on June 14, 2022, for the recruitment of soldiers below the rank of commissioned officers into the three services( Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy)  of the armed forces. Soldiers recruited under this scheme will be recognized as Agniveers.

The recruits will serve for a tenure of 4 years that includes training for six months followed by 3.5 years of deployment. A quarter of the Agniveers will be chosen for the permanent cadre. Personnel who retire after 4 years of service will not be eligible for a pension, but will receive an amount of approximately 11.71 lakh at the end of their tenure.

Who can apply to this scheme?

  • Age Criteria:- Aspirants between 17 and a half and 21 years of age are eligible for recruitment. Following massive protests, the Defence Ministry said that it would allow those who were 21 years old in 2020 to be eligible only for this year. The upper age limit for the recruitment  process for Agnipath scheme for 2022 is 23 years.
  • Education Qualification:- Interested candidates should have a Class 10th or matriculation passing certificate, an intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent mark sheet,  a 3 year Engineering Diploma Final Year Mark sheet, and a Matriculation mark sheet or 2 years of Vocational course mark sheets and mark sheets of non-vocational.
  • Gender and Marital Status:- Both unmarried male and female  candidates will be able to apply for the Agnipath recruitment programme in the Indian Navy and Indian Army, but for the Agnipath Air force recruitment process, only unmarried male candidates are eligible.

If you are thinking of joining the Indian armed forces, then you probably have your own reasons and interest for doing so. Some join because the facilities provided in the Indian armed forces are good, while some join for salary reasons, and  some who join the army because they are passionate about it and want to serve their country through it.
